Favorite Daylilies This Week

There were seventy two different daylily cultivars blooming in the fields today. Of these, 15 still have loads of flowers and quite a few buds, including the eight daylilies below.

Daylily season is quickly passing, but there is still quite a lot of bloom in the fields. There were 150 different daylilies in flower today. The daylilies below are all loaded with buds and will continue to bloom for several weeks. Here are a few of the daylilies that still have lots of bloom and have been catching our eye.

We are now one month past peak bloom. There is quite a bit less bloom than last week, but still a lot blooming out in the fields today. We advise visitors who are looking for late season daylilies to look for those varieties with lots of buds. Here are a few of the daylilies that still have lots of bloom and have been catching our eye.

There is still loads of bloom in the fields. Most mid-late and late daylilies along with those that rebloom, such as Zagora. The heat is back, which will puch the season along more quickly. Late Season Daylily Collection

 

Six of our favorite daylilies that will bloom from early august well into September. One each of Asisatic Pheasant, August Flame, Glowing Remembrance, May May, Orchid Cordage and Zella Virginia. A $73 value. Six plants for $62.

 

ASIATIC PHEASANT (Knower) 22”, D., M., 6” (T)
Exotic, russet yellow spider-like form with rolled petals and yellow-green throat. Nice low growing attention grabber. Fragrant and reblooms.
AUGUST FLAME (Woods) 38”, D., V.L., 5 ¼”
Large, flame-red flower with greenish throat. Tall.
One of the latest to bloom, extending the season longer.
GLOWING REMEMBRANCE (Woods-Leach) 25”, D., L., 5”
Neatly formed, peach-pink, overlapping petals accented by a radiant apricot throat. Fine pleated, ruffling and excellent branching with up to 28 buds per scape. Robust performer. Glows in the late August garden. Fragrant.
     
MAY MAY (Hayward) 30”, S.Ev., E., 3 ½”
Small, very pale, creamy yellow with green throat that looks near
white from a distance. Nocturnal, fragrant and reblooms for us from June to frost. Good bud count and long season make it a good choice for any garden.
ORCHID CORSAGE (Saxton) 32”, D., M.L., 7 ½”
Huge, orchid lavender with a light yellow starburst throat adds
to an overall exotic look. Petals twist lightly and gently recurve.
Fragrant and reblooms.
ZELLA VIRGINIA (Kropf) 24 ", D., M., 5 ½"
Melon-cantaloupe double with green throat. Fragrant and extended blooming. H. M. Award.

We are 2 and a half weeks past peak blooms, but the fields are still full of so much color. The cook days and nights and weekly rain is helping to extend the mid season daylilies well into the mid-late Season. And the late daylilies are also blooming. Peak bloom was just a week ago, and the daylilies are continuing to produce an enormous amount of color in the fields. The mid season daylilies continue and the mid-late daylilies have started. There are even a few Late season daylilies showing their first blossoms. The rain and cool nights are helping to extend the season and to produce tons of flowers. Cool, over cast days are ideal for viewing the fields. Here are a few of the daylilies that still have lots of bloom and have been catching our eye.
