Gardening Talks on Saturdays in May
Tranquil Lake Nursery
in Rehoboth, Massachusetts will offer five free garden talks on Saturdays
in May, starting May 3rd . This is your opportunity to learn
everything your ever wanted to know about the newest perennials; how to fill a
container that will last all summer and even beyond; plants with exceptional
foliage and texture; plant combinations that will extend the season of interest
in your garden and how to garden successfully in the shade. Get your garden
ready for a season of glorious bloom. You will also see more than 10 acres of
fields of Siberian Iris and Japanese Iris and daylilies blooming in the fields.
Tranquil Lake Nursery is the largest grower of these beautiful perennials in the
northeast, with over 3,000 cultivars of daylilies in our fields. The display
gardens showcase the iris and daylilies as well as a diverse selection of
perennials, herbs, vines, shrubs, small trees, grasses and tender
perennials.
All workshops are free
and
will be held on Saturdays at 11 a.m. (We will move indoors in case of rain.) Bring
a lawn chair. All plants that are discussed will be available for sale.

New In the Garden: Perennials and More
Warren Leach,
landscape horticulturist and co-owner of Tranquil Lake Nursery, will
discuss new varieties of perennials and shrubs as well as some unusual or
underused charmers that will really stand out in the garden this year.

10 Plants That
Defy Drought in the Container or in the Border
The gardens at
Tranquil Lake Nursery are planted with many drought tolerant combinations
that survive in our sandy soils. Warren Leach, landscape
horticulturist and co-owner of Tranquil Lake Nursery will showcase many
woody ornamentals and herbaceous perennials that thrive in these well
drained and often dry conditions. He will also discuss hardy plants for
container plantings that add beauty to areas with limited horticultural
attributes such as on pavement or under shallow rooted trees. He will
discuss weatherproof containers, demonstrate soil media, planting tips,
and color combinations for creating containers plantings that will
embellish any garden or patio all summer long. He will also discuss use of
winter hardy trees, shrubs, vines and even grasses that can live outdoors
year round and offer design tips for pleasing combinations.

Plants with Color, Texture and a Long Season of Interest
Warren Leach,
horticulturist and co-owner of Tranquil Lake Nursery will explore a diverse
palette of perennials, grasses, shrubs and trees with foliage that add
interesting architecture, structure, texture, form, pattern and freshness to
the sunny or shady border through the summer and into the fall. He will also
offer design tips to help you make pleasing plant combinations using
complementary foliage and texture for a long season of garden interest.

Combinations for a Long Season of Bloom
The gardens at
Tranquil Lake Nursery are known for their abundant and colorful blooms
throughout the summer and into the fall. This is achieved by combining
early, mid and late season perennials, shrubs vines and grasses. Warren
Leach, horticulturist and co-owner of Tranquil lake Nursery will
showcase choice daylilies and other perennials and woody plants that sustain
the garden season.

Shade
Gardening in the
shade may offer challenges but also charming opportunities and even
protection for the gardener from the strong rays of the sun. Warren
Leach, horticulturist and co-owner of Tranquil Lake Nursery will
highlight shrubs and perennials that benefit from the shadowed protection
of overhead canopy adding colorful flowers and foliage to the shady
garden.
