Tranquil Lake Nursery in Rehoboth, Massachusetts will Tranquil Lake Nursery in Rehoboth, Massachusetts offer three free garden talks on Saturdays in September at 11:00 a.m., starting September 11. These workshop are designed to highlight the many plants that will extend the beauty of the gardening season through the fall and into the winter. This is your opportunity to learn about fall blooming perennials, plants with attractive fall flower, fruits and foliage and other plants that will extend the season into the winter, while you also learn how to get your gardens ready for winter and prepare for the spring ahead. You will also have a chance to see the late-blooming flowers in the gardens as well as a large selection of late-blooming daylilies in the fields. Tranquil Lake Nursery is the largest grower of these plants in the northeast, with over 3,600 cultivars of daylilies and more than 300 varieties each of Siberian and Japanese Iris. We also have display gardens and offer a diverse selection of perennials, herbs, grasses, vines, shrubs, small trees and tender perennials.

September 11          Daylilies for the Late Season Garden and Their Companions

Philip Boucher, horticulturist and co-owner of Tranquil Lake Nursery will show off some of his favorite “Daylilies for the Late Season Garden and Their Companions” from the collection of 3,600 or more daylily varieties in the fields at Tranquil lake Nursery and additional flowers in the borders. Learn what characteristics to look for, how to use daylilies in the garden and then ramble through the fields to see the September blooming beauties up close. He will also recommend a diverse selection of perennials for the late season garden and will suggest plant combinations that will complement these plants through the garden season. Early fall is an excellent time to plant perennials for beauty this year and continued appeal in years to come.

September 18          Flowers, Foliage and Texture for the Late Season Garden

Light up your fall garden by adding some of these stunningly beautiful perennials, grasses and shrubs that offer outstanding foliage qualities and dramatic appeal for the late season. Warren Leach, garden designer and co-owner of Tranquil Lake Nursery will suggest an assortment of exceptional plants with “Flowers, Foliage and Texture for the Late Season Garden” providing examples that will shine in conditions ranging from full sun to dense shade. Some of these foliar beauties will reach their peak in autumn, while others are outstanding performers across the garden season. Experience their unique texture, bold size and shape and superior fall color.

September 25          Plants for Late Fall and Winter Interest

Garden color and interest need not fade with the first fall frost and may even persist through winter snows. Enhance this often overlooked garden season by adding perennials, grasses, shrubs and small trees that will add color, texture and structure in your borders throughout the fall and through the winter. Warren Leach, garden designer and co-owner of Tranquil Lake Nursery will highlight a variety of uncommon and lesser known late season beauties that will spice up your borders adding late-season blooms, fall foliage effect, colorful twigs and attractive fruit to brighten the fall and winter landscape in his garden talk “Plants for Late Fall and Winter Interest.” He will also offer design suggestions for combining these plants into your borders and protecting them for the winter ahead.

All workshops are free and will be held on Saturdays at 11 a.m. (We will move indoors in case of rain.) Bring a lawn chair. All plants that are discussed will be available for sale.
